Hey! I’m Tony.
Hi, I’m Tony Mest, a drummer and instructor with over 25 years of experience sharing my love for rhythm and music. I began drumming at the age of two, inspired by my dad, a bass player. By six, I was performing in my dad’s Creedence Clearwater Revival cover band, developing a deep connection to music that has shaped my life ever since.
I’m a versatile drummer, specializing in genres including rock, R&B, hip-hop, jazz, and more. With over two decades of experience playing in bands across a variety of styles, I’ve honed my skills both on stage and in the studio. I’ve had the honor of touring across the country, performing at Lollapalooza 2022 and Chicago venues such as Metro and Thalia Hall.
As a teacher, I emphasize music over drumming — it’s about using technical skill to create something musical and meaningful. My adaptable approach means that I tailor lessons to each student’s interests and skill level, whether it’s learning to exploring the fundamentals, read music, or mastering songs.
I offer both in-person lessons at my home studio in Evanston (complete with two drum kits) and virtual lessons. I’m happy to travel for house calls if you’ve got your own setup (travel fees apply). Whether you’re a beginner picking up sticks for the first time or an experienced drummer looking to take your skills further, I’d love to help you achieve your goals.
